In the Sierra Tarahumara, in the State of Chihuahua, there is a
mountainous zone mostly covered by pine groves, known as Basaseachic.
This national park, located in the hydrographic basin of the river
with the same name, it stretches along an area of 51,222 hectares. The
most remarkable aspect of it is the waterfall of Basaseachic, which
offers the visitors an impressive spectacle, with one of the most
important falls in the world, 245 meters high, being then the highest
in Mexico, twentieth in the world and fourth in North America.
You can get to the waterfall through a road; nevertheless, make sure
to ask about the road condition before going into this road, because
the access to the waterfall is rough, specially during the rainy
season. To get to the area easily, you can hire local guides.
In relation to the forest wealth of the park, the main of it are
oak-pines, acacias, agaves and alders; nevertheless, its fauna is very
rich; there are species such as the white tailed deer, boars, pumas,
striped skunks, gray and red squirrels, black tailed hares, spotted
quails, rattlesnakes, chameleons, necklace lizards, bluebirds,
woodpeckers and hawks, among some others.
